Emmy’s House Children’s Advocacy Center provides a safe, child-friendly environment for children and families when there are concerns that a child may have experienced abuse, neglect, violence, or exploitation.

By bringing professionals from multiple agencies together in one location, Emmy’s House helps reduce trauma, support children and caregivers, and connect families with the services and resources they need.

Exposure to violence
Other situations requiring a coordinated response

We also provide support, advocacy, and resources for non-offending caregivers throughout the process.

Services at Emmy’s House are provided on a referral basis through law enforcement or the Department of Social Services (DSS) only.

Our Multidisciplinary Team

At Emmy’s House, professionals from multiple agencies work together as a Multidisciplinary Team (MDT). This may include the Randolph County District Attorney's Office, Randolph County Sherriff's Office, Asheboro Police Department, Archdale Police Department, Randleman Police Department, Liberty Police Department, Randolph County Department of Social Services (DSS), medical providers, mental health professionals, forensic interviewers and victim advocates.

By coordinating services in one child-friendly location, the MDT helps reduce the trauma children may experience during the investigative process while ensuring children and families receive the support and resources they need.

Why a Children’s Advocacy Center?

Children’s Advocacy Centers provide a safe, child-friendly environment where professionals work together to support children and families. This coordinated approach helps reduce trauma, limits the number of times a child may need to share their experience, and connects families with the services and support they need. At Emmy’s House, our forensic interviewers are RADAR-trained, using child-centered interviewing practices designed to help children share their experiences in a safe, supportive, and developmentally appropriate environment.

What should I expect during my child’s medical exam?

If a medical examination is recommended, it will be performed by a specially trained medical provider in a child-focused, trauma-informed setting. The exam is designed to evaluate your child’s health, address medical concerns, and provide any necessary care. For more information about what to expect during your child’s medical exam, please watch the video provided. Most medical exams are similar to a routine pediatric checkup and may include: Measuring height, weight, and vital signs Checking your child’s eyes, ears, mouth, skin, and overall health Talking with you and your child about medical concerns or symptoms Additional testing or sample collection, when medically appropriate Depending on the circumstances, photographs may also be taken using specialized medical equipment to document medical findings. These photographs become part of your child’s confidential medical record and can help reduce the need for repeated examinations. If treatment, medication, or follow-up care is recommended, the medical provider will discuss those recommendations with you and answer any questions you may have. Our goal is to make the experience as comfortable as possible while providing your child with compassionate, high-quality care.

Is there a cost for services?

No. Children’s Advocacy Center services are provided free of charge to children and their families.

Will I be with my child during the interview?

Caregivers typically do not participate in the forensic interview. This allows children to share information in their own words with a specially trained interviewer. We understand that this can be difficult for caregivers. Our staff will keep you informed, answer your questions, and provide support throughout the process.

What happens after our visit?

After your visit, our team will explain the next steps and discuss available resources and support. Emmy’s House provides a safe, neutral space for children and families throughout the process. We work alongside law enforcement and DSS while providing advocacy, support, and connections to services that may be helpful to your family.
